Syndicated Reports

Concepts of the Future, Boom or Bust”, our most recent syndicated report published in September 2005, examined how five new concept stores are doing and how they compare to Wal-Mart.
These new concepts were:
  • Super Saver in Baton Rouge, LA,
  • Kroger Marketplace in Columbus, OH,
  • Safeway Lifestyle in Tempe, AZ,
  • Dollar General in Nashville, TN
  • Wegman’s in Ocean City, NJ
  • Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Indianapolis, IN
SIRS’ examined shoppers’ perceptions of each of these new concepts, looking at both strengths and weaknesses of the concepts, departments, and services offered.  How do these concepts compare to average US supermarkets?  How do they compare to Wal*Mart?  And, most importantly, how are they performing versus the competition in their own markets?  What are their successes and failures?

Another syndicated report, "The Future of Today's Retailers", was published in June 2003. This research shows that Value Centers will dominate the future (stores that have a clear focus establishing a total low price position within the categories they compete – plus at least on other major consumer centric strength).  Using shopper attitudinal and behavior measurements, we see Value Centers dominating in a large number of key categories. In general, Value Centers occupy the most desirable position in shoppers' minds.  If traditional merchants do not improve, a good number will disappear because of weak branding/lack of customer appeal.
